We cannot diminish
the importance
of a partnership
between those
with vision and
those with the
skill to make
that vision

Creative Economy Planning and Design Services and Festival Art Workshops

Community Planning and Design Services & Festival Workshops

Planning and Design Services

The ARC provides design services for small towns, city neighborhoods, and planning departments in collaboration with Connecticut architecture and design firms and the Yale University Urban Design Workshop. The goal is to provide planning and design expertise for communities to better blend into the landscape and environment effectively. To provide marketing, branding, and graphic design expertise to establish corporate identity. And, to combine all skills to help shape projects to build livable and sustainable communities in a creative economy. In all its work, the team is committed to an inclusive, community-based process, grounded in broad citizen participation and a vision of the design process as a tool for community organizing, empowerment, and capacity-building.

City Vision

An ten hour interdisciplinary workshop in city planning for community organizers. The program takes participants through a planning process that teaches them the vocabulary for city planning, the complexities of planning decisions, and the need to balance the conflicting needs of planners and developers, residents and builders. Appropriate for 20-30 persons, this hands-on activity involves the development of a scaled, three-dimensional, city model. City Vision employs team interplay techniques, community integrated learning, and multi-disciplinary skills to foster awareness of our cultural, natural, and built environment. One of the main purposes of this program is to show people how they can become part of a process that directly affects their lives.

Festival Workshops

All of our programs can be adapted to community and festival events. For example, at Special Olympics '95, we served over 20,000 participants during a 7 day arts festival and more recently we provided activities for 7,000 people over the course of 4 days at the OpSail CT 2000 festival. We have presented design workshops at community festivals including First Night Hartford, First Night Bridgeport, International Arts and Ideas, New Britain Sesquintennial, West Hartford Our in-school programs can be customized for community and business groups looking for a fun, learning-based team activity.
